From Drafts to the Tavern.

From Drafts to the Tavern.

Otaku Tavern has been open for 8 months now and I joined a two months later.

Writing has always been a way to escape for me. It was usually about things that happened in my life. How a certain situation made me feel whether being happy, sad, or life changing. Though I never thought that any of my writing would be viewed. Nor did I think anime would be something I would be writing about.

To be completely honest I have just recently started watching Anime. It’s been a little over a year. I was the type of person that thought it wasn’t for me, that anime was for children.

Turns out I was so wrong.

Anime has become a place of comfort for me like it has for many of you. There are so many different characters, backstories, and genres. It just keeps you wanting to come back for more. You finish one series and then you’re searching for what the next watch is going to be.

Everyone has that one that hooked them and they have just never gone back. Though you realize that every single one grabs your attention in a different way and then you’re just caught in a never ending cycle.

Mine started with Naruto, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kiasen, and then Chainsaw Man. So on and so forth.

Two of which had to be binged and One that changed everything.

Otaku Tavern was created in October 2025. I remember when OT told me their professor wanted them to create a blog. At first I enjoyed reading it. The crazy outlandish shit that they would use to describe a scene or character.

Then OT convinced me to write for the blog.

I remember when they asked if I wanted to try and write something. It didn’t matter when I started watching. OT knew they wanted Otaku Tavern to be a place where a community could be built. Whether you were a new or seasoned watcher.

OT suggested writing about Reze.

The movie didn’t come out too long before and I had been absolutely obsessed with Reze’s character. So it made sense for that to be my first piece.

If I am being completely honest though, I wasn’t planning on ever publishing it. It was just going to end up sitting in my drafts and forgotten about. Though clearly that didn’t happen.

Reze was posted.

Then Rengoku was posted the week after.

Believe in yourself.

Realizing that if I didn’t try then what was the point in writing. After all, most anime teaches that you will never know you can do something until you try. Shit we wouldn’t have even gotten these masterpieces if the creators had just decided to add it to their drafts.

Then the rabbit hole starter. OT talked about it in their 6 month post mentioning how you refresh the stats a little too much sometimes. Especially when you are first starting.

Before I knew it, Reze and Rengoku became our most viewed posts.

So continuing to write seemed to be the right decision. That meant watching more and let me tell you there is something for everyone.

Somewhere in the midst of things became a little competitive for me. Though not really, I just think it is funny to think about.

I was dethroned by Jujutsu Kaisen Culling Games that OT wrote. Which we knew was going to happen based on how much people were just trying to untangle the rules.

Though not too long after we got a nice surprise on a post I wrote. We got our first actual comment.

All in all we are succeeding slowly but surely.

We are thankful for every single person who has viewed, shared, and possibly pulled up a chair to stay a while. We have many new things that have started since and we are excited for the journey that is ahead.

So yes, actually publishing was a big deal and it was terrifying. The unknown feeling of if people will agree and even like what we had said. Though at some point I realized I’m doing this because it is fun and exciting.

The idea of people reading things we wrote isn’t as scary.

So more tavern spotlights, anime archives, tavern ranking/list, and dice and lore posts are made. We are still finding our footing on everything. Which is fine because there should always be space to grow.

We are excited for what the future holds.

Please feel free to stick around. We also encourage you all to leave a comment because we love hearing the wild and unhinge things to describe your favorite characters too.

If you have an anime that you want us to watch and try to write about, please let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

We also have our very own newsletter where you can find what is up next, watchlist recs, and recent posts.

I also suggest that if you’re interested in posts like this OT wrote about how their 6 months went so go and check that out.
