Six Months In, and the Tavern’s Still Open

Somehow, Otaku Tavern has been around for a little over six months now.

That still feels strange to say. In my head, this place is still new. Half-built, a little uneven, and still figuring itself out.  But it’s here. Posts are up. People have been reading. Mostly quietly, which honestly makes sense. I’m a lurker half the time too. 

Still, every view, every share, every person who clicked on a character spotlight or ended up in a Jujutsu Kaisen post while trying to untangle the Culling Game brain fog helped make this feel more real.

Otaku Tavern technically started as a homework assignment, which still feels a little funny. The assignment was to build a blog, not keep one alive after the class ended. I told myself I wasn’t going to drop it once it was over, but honestly, it started becoming more than an assignment before the first post was even public.

It was fun at first. Then people started actually showing up, even in small numbers, and suddenly it felt less like a school project and more like a place we were building on purpose.

Then Violet Vein joined in, and the Tavern got a little bigger. Another voice meant more room for different posts, different reactions, different obsessions. Somewhere around then, “we” started feeling more accurate than “I.” 

We’ve posted character spotlights, JJK breakdowns, Chainsaw Man pain, a little Fullmetal Alchemist, a little Bleach, some Dice & Lore, and more than one post that started because a scene wouldn’t leave us alone. 

The funny thing is, building a blog teaches you how quiet the internet can be. You post something, refresh stats too many times, pretend you’re not refreshing stats too many times, and then one random post starts moving days later like it woke up from a nap and chose violence.

It’s weird. But it’s also been kind of grounding. The slow part has made us pay attention to what actually feels like the Tavern: character posts with a little ache in them, JJK breakdowns that help untangle the mess, Dice & Lore ideas that start as anime thoughts and somehow end up at the table.

Six months in, I don’t think OT has fully found its shape. Honestly, I hope it never gets too finished. But it does feel clearer now than it did at the start.

That mix is still the heart of it, I think.

Going forward, we’re going to keep building from there. More anime. More Tavern Spotlights. More arc wreckage. More Dice & Lore. More posts about characters who clearly needed rest and absolutely did not get it. We’re also slowly working toward video stuff, because apparently we needed another way to ramble. 

So, seriously, thank you.

The internet makes quiet support hard to see sometimes, but it still matters.

The Tavern is still small. The floorboards are still settling.

But the lights are on.

We also opened the OT Dispatch, mostly for updates, watchlist recs, loose anime thoughts, and smaller bits that don’t need a full post.
