Spoiler: Season 1
If I am being honest, when I first started this particular anime I wasn’t entirely into it.
The art style threw me off. It was full of comedy that I didn’t really understand or maybe didn’t want to. Along with having to watch a weird mentor, a kid that’s serious all the time, and a fart cloud that never goes away.
Then I stopped over thinking it. Mob Psycho 100 is the type of anime that you watch for the joy of it.
Enjoying every awkward and corny moment while they last.
They start off by explaining that there are strange phenomena that happen around us that have yet to be explained by science. Some people however come face to face. To which they either are thrown into fear or choose to fight against these phenomena every day.
These people that choose to fight are called. . .
Psychics.
Then Mob Psycho introduces us to a self proclaimed psychic, Reigen Arataka. Who is very clearly a con artist and master manipulator from the start.
The first job we see this man take is at an abandoned building where a man reportedly had died. His death, caused by his fear of cockroaches. Though when the spirit actually makes his entrance, Reigen thought it was a great idea to trust what he read on the internet. Therefore embarrassing himself by throwing table salts everywhere.
But. To make the matter worse, he had to call for backup from the second year middle schooler that he was mentoring. You know the one that actually has psychic abilities.
Kageyama Shigeo known as Mob. The kid just walks in, takes one look at the spirit, and exorcises him like it was light work.
Heyy buddy, where are your parents? Also why are they not worried about a con artist mentoring their child? Actually nevermind these are the same parents that view psychic abilities as going through puberty, so maybe they wouldn’t be that concerned.
Also why is this grown man calling you in the middle of your school day. He could have waited until after to let you know you guys had a job.
Or here’s a thought, he could go on the job by himself.
Which honestly makes it worse because we already know Mob is going to be doing all of the work. While Reigen acts like he is doing shit when he isn’t.

This specific job takes them to a tunnel that is known to have paranormal activity.
Reigen when they arrive is acting like a complete fool and almost exposes himself to Mob. Like bro thought you had the situation under control because you’re so powerful right?
Mob could sense that the spirits in the tunnel were dangerous.
When they are in the tunnel we see more of what he can do and everything Reigen can’t.
It’s the way he starts running down the tunnel while Mob is doing all the heavy lifting. Managing to run himself right into the boss of the evil spirits. Thinking the spirit is a human wrestler trying to scare people. Then embarrassing himself yet again with some stupid attack that is bound not to exorcise nothing.
Then in the midst of everything Mob says the evil spirits and the main tunnel boss are all apparently weak.
Which begs the question, how strong are you bro?
Uhmmmm Sir, you are acting a little too nonchalant for spirits that seemed to be very strong and dangerous from the outside of this freaking tunnel.
I’m happy you were able to help that biker gang cross over peacefully though.
By this point, I was genuinely confused. Mob is supposed to be a student. Not a way to make money and only give him the bare minimum when you realistically are not teaching him anything about having these types of powers.
Also the worst part is Mob doesn’t even realize Reigen is a fraud. Thinking bro is amazing and actually looks up to him.
Mob. Honey.
If I could give you a piece of advice. Run. Run as fast and as far away from this man. . . But if you don’t at least ASK FOR A DAMN RAISE because you are doing absolutely all the work and that’s not fair.
Afterward we get a peak into what after school clubs are like. As normal, you have kids that enjoy clubs and sports. While others will go home or to work.
Mob would often not stick around for clubs. Until the telepathy club tries to recruit him because if they didn’t their club would be embellished. Which ended up in a verbal altercation between the club’s president and Reigen on whether he should join or not.

Mob decided to think about it.
Which leads us into yet another mission that he has to deal with on his own. Mainly because he was the only one that passed as a female.
Long story short, the missions honestly keep getting more cringy.
Oh and every time Mob says an evil spirit is strong or dangerous. I just simply don’t believe him anymore.
Also is the whole series just about this kid having to go job to job, exorcising spirits for little money. Oh and you can’t forget being conned every single day by the person you call your mentor.
Something seems to change after this exorcism though.
Leading to the kid exploring. He is more than just being a psychic. Joining a club nobody expected him to join. The body improvement club.
It is good to note that the Body Improvement club let the Telepathy club use their room. They are constantly outside anyways and just needed a space to store their equipment.
With that the jobs that Reigen takes him on started to dwindle.
Though there are plenty of office jobs that just scream. . .
I AM A FRAUD.
When you think Mob Psycho 100 is finally starting to be normal they remind you why they are everything but.
Cause all of a sudden we are being introduced to a cult that was formed by Master Dimple. Who is an evil spirit that possesses an innocent person to gain a following.

The lol cult was being hypnotized into thinking that they were happy. When they realistically probably were not because life be lifing sometimes.
It also would have been fine if his policy wasn’t to kill outsiders or anyone that disagreed with their practices. Dimple could have simply let him walk away and the cult would have continued its daily routine.
Instead Dimple was exorcised.
He felt bad afterwards because all they were doing was laughing, but it wasn’t genuine. Reigen even let him know that Dimple just wanted power and soon enough those people were going to get dragged into something they didn’t sign up for.
It was better for the cult to be dealt with now rather than later.
Then turns out Dimple was stronger than we thought. Continuing on as a fart cloud that hangs around Mob.
Bro trusted that damn fart cloud a little too fast for me. Especially after just telling you he wanted to be a God.
After the lol cult incident the school reporter that was there questions Ritsu (Mob’s brother) about Mob’s psychic abilities.
Mob has always had them. While Ritsu never acquired any and longed to gain those types of powers.
Both brothers were envious of the other.
Then a problem arises between schools.
If you thought Dimple stressed you out, then the upcoming character introductions aren’t going to be that much better.
Teruki Hanazawa is a complete menace at first. Being the only other character thus far to have psychic abilities and thinks he is the main character. Bro is just so caught up in his head with being the strongest. He would use his powers against other people.

Everything else about them was the same. No confidence, no friends, and no way of standing out. Both wanting to prove something to themselves. Along with the fact that if they didn’t have psychic abilities, they would be nothing.
I will say this is when I really started getting into this series. The fights seem to become more serious than the rest. Along with being more dangerous.
2 people, 2 beliefs, 1 unexpected outcome.
Mob wouldn’t compromise his morales, wouldn’t satisfy him by fighting back. Believing that you shouldn’t use your psychic abilities on other people.
Which is something Reigen taught him.
You will notice that Reigen can accidentally become a good mentor sometimes.
Though Mob kinda can’t control his powers after he passes out from Teruki strangling him.
Oh so you said you wanted to fight Mob?
No the hell you don’t. Bro is lowkey terrifying when he loses control. I wouldn’t even want to watch a ???%.
Things started getting sucked into the sky and buildings by the end were torn apart structures. You would come out of those events a completely different person.
Apparently this wasn’t the first time Mob couldn’t control his powers. When they were younger the same thing happened. The worst part is Mob never remembers what happens.
Even going to ask Ritsu about the situation when they were younger. He clearly lied about it saying that nothing really happened. Then when bro is watching it on the news, he looked terrified for his life.
He also clearly wants psychic abilities so bad.
Ritsu is later mistaken to be Mob which lands him in the awakening lab run by Kenji Mitsuura. Along with other kid espers. They were trying to create new espers.
Ritsu also teams up with Shinji Kamuro (the student body president) to “clean up the school”. All in the name of creating a better place for his brother.
Starting with Tenga Onigawara. Getting everyone to turn against him and making them think he is a pervert. Then goes down the list of people to alienate basically.
Ritsu started to lose himself. Being caught up in trying to find some type of power.
Soon after his psychic powers actually start to awaken and he is found out by Dimple.

This was honestly the worst timing too. Especially when Dimple wants power as well and wants to possess people. Also Ristu had me over here thinking he was turning into a complete villain.
Meanwhile that was happening everyone started looking for White T Poison. Which was the name given to Mob after beating Hanazawa.
Ritsu then poses as his brother.
He was able to pull it off. Taking down more than a dozen other students all from different schools. Who all wanted a shot of taking down White T Poison down.
His powers coming in strong.
Mob finds out and ends up apologizing to everyone. Not understand what had gotten into his brother.
Then when you think things can’t get any worse. Megumu Koyama, an adult esper, shows up, slams Mob into a wall, and kidnapping Ritsu. But not without getting an ass whopping from Mob first.
Bro is forced to go all out. Though this is the first time he is actually conscious.
Can we also talk about how Mob’s morale goes right out the door when it comes to his little brother Ritsu. He was going to do anything he needed to keep him safe. Cause Mob it sure as hell looks like you are using your psychic abilities on someone else.
Ritsu at this point started regretting everything he was doing. Realizing he was jealous of his brother, but also hated seeing him get hurt. Finally snapping out of whatever had come over him.
Now Mob didn’t win the fight against Megumu, but that was only because he played dirty. Using a spray of some sorts to knock him out. Then proceeded to flee with Ritsu before he could become conscious again.
Turns out there is an organization that’s called Claw. They are dangerous. Kidnapping kid espers, training them, and turning them into weapons isn’t everything. Their main goal is to essentially take over the world.

Since Ritsu and the other kids from the awakening lab were newly taken. Claw needed to find a way to brainwash them.
To do so they tried to use intimidation. Killing off one of the kids to provoke the others. Which didn’t go as planned because what they didn’t know was that Kaito and his twin Daichi could communicate using telepathy. Ruining their plan.
Mob Psycho was so fucking rude for that. OH MY GOD, I thought Kaito was murdered. It jumped from being a little dangerous to don’t do anything because someone else is going to die. That was one mean hypnotic.
They would need to find a way to escape and find Kiato.
Meanwhile Mob, Teruki, and Dimple all team up to rescue everyone. Torturing a man named Terada, to gather information about where they are keeping Ritsu and the others.
All splitting up when they get to the location where we get the honor of meeting the scarred members of claw. They are the ones that are the strongest in the organization.
Dimple had possessed someone and then fought against Matsuo. Which in my opinion was a great mash up considering how bro loves keeping evil spirits as pets. Therefore when Dimple gets trapped, he’s put in a container with other ravenous spirits that could tear him to pieces.
Miyagawa finds Teruki and almost burns him to a crisp using his pyrokinesis. Though he transferred his barrier over, turning his abilities against himself.
The people who caught Teruki was Yusuke Sakurai and Muraki essentially catching him off guard.
Then we have Mob, who last longer than everyone else. Getting surrounded by Mukai’s dolls and destroying them all. Which leads to Tsuchiya finding him to fight because the little girl was upset about her dolls.
Bro beats them both. While being sad he had to fight a woman because he is a gentleman and views it as wrong.
The woman literally had to give this kid permission to kick her ass. Honestly she probably shouldn’t have done that because then she would have probably won. Which would have captured him sooner.
Don’t even get me started on when Takeuchi went to fight Mob. Simply didn’t even getting a chance.
It’s not until Sho Suzuki and Muto uses Ritsu as bait and hypnotizes him to burn out. That he is finally captured.

They are all placed in a room that was meant to tamper psychic abilities. Except for Dimple because he was fighting for his life in the damn vase, trying not to be consumed.
At this point Mob isn’t even mad at Ritsu. He was just happy that he was okay. Knowing and believing in his brother to come up with an escape plan. Not being worried ever so slightly. Even if they couldn’t use their powers.
The sibling love is great. To have someone that loves and cares about you enough to put themselves in a situation that is dangerous. With really no questions at all. Then being able to trust and believe they can help.
Also whatever Ritsu said in the past didn’t matter anymore.
It is great to see. I just know that if I was in that situation my brother would be yelling at me by how much I fucked up while we are trying to escape.
While on the other side of those doors, through some hallways, Reigen is managing to fool everyone that he is the boss of Claw.
Convincing all the underlyings that what they were doing was wrong.
When the 7th division leader found out, bro was ready to fight. Not caring that the whole division had been fooled. Didn’t even consider taking them back, essentially abandoning them as his. Basically saying that they were on their own or Reigen can be their new boss.
So when Reigen tells them to run and save themselves. They did just that.
Taking us right into a fight.
We have Reigen, who instead of fighting wants to run. He had a rule that you shouldn’t use your psychic abilities on other people. Morally it was wrong, to him. Constantly yelling to run, turn the other way, and that it wasn’t worth losing yourself over this.
Meanwhile black orbs are flying, the building is being torn to pieces, with a man freaking out about his pet evil spirit getting exorcised. Then having Ritsu and Teruki begging for help.
Having Mob over here. Not wanting to disobey his master, but also wanting to put an end to everything. His powers, building up inside so he could protect those he cares about.

It has to be a hard decision and overwhelming while people are yelling at you on opposite sides. You most likely just let whatever happens, happen.
Reigen steps in and stops Mob before he has the chance to use his powers. You know you always need that character that’s lowkey crazy enough to step in between you and something dangerous. That’s when it happens. . .
Reigen Arataka is Dead.
Or so we thought. Turns out all of Mob’s energy was tossed over to Reigen temporarily and no one realized. They instantly started thinking he was amazing. Not questioning his powers anymore.
Honestly I didn’t either. Literally had me over here thinking his powers had awakened. This just helps Reigen be a con artist for a longer period. Though it might not. They might start asking why he can’t do this all the time. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
This was basically Mob’s way of running.
That is so hypocritical of you Sir.
Reigen breaks Yusuke Sakurai’s sword in half with his bare hands.
Exorcises Matsuo’s greatest creation with little ease.
Starts swatting aways black orbs like they are just flies.

Then tosses Ishiguro (7th Division Leader) across the room like he was a sack of potatoes. Mind you it was to take off his mask.
Also can we talk real quick about how I thought Ishiguro was a young girl. Along with everyone else which is wild because bro your own team didn’t even know you were an old short man. Had everyone confused.
Anyways this was the first time Reigen actually does some work instead of making Mob do all the work. Bro finally gets his hands a little dirty.
He also proceeds to criticize them to the point they just gave up on fighting and started thinking. Except for their leader. Who gets so enraged and completely destructive.
The man tries to pull everything into one of his black orbs.
Sho Suzuki then comes out of nowhere and finishes the fight. Turns out he wasn’t ever a real trainee. He was sent to the 7th division to find the espers that were worthy enough to be taken back to HQ. The son of the boss of the organization.
At the end of the season. . .
Mob is back to working out with the body improvement club and still passing out.
Ritsu and Shinji Kamuro apologize for their actions.
Teruki becomes a teacher for the other kids with psychic abilities that are associated with the awakening lab. Therefore they are prepared if Claw makes another attack.
Oh and Reigen is back to being a con artist with the new ability of seeing Dimple.
They might just be strong enough to take down Claw and their plans for world domination.
Comment what your favorite Mob Psycho season 1 moment is.
Mine is when Mob goes into ???% because I was completely shocked and locked in so fast. If I remember correctly, I’m pretty sure I rewinded it, to be able to watch it all over again.
If you want a similar vibe then take a trip through The Rainbow of Dandadan.
Though if you need to catch up it is on Crunchyroll.

This is one of my top animes such a great read
Thank You! We’re happy you enjoyed reading it!
