Power: World Domination Plans, Unexpected Attachment
Spoiler: Season 1 – Reze Movie Arc
When we meet Power, why did she come in stronger than ever? Could it be she feels like she has something to prove or does she think she is better and more powerful. I think that’s just how she is though. Someone that has this type of spunk that gets translated into being greedy, childish, manipulative, and that thinks only for herself. She also has a tendency to run into fights without thinking, which could land her and her team in trouble.
Though it doesn’t take very long time to start seeing the more caring side of her. Turns out the girl got a soft spot for cats. Specifically her cat Meowy that was currently being held captive by the Bat Devil.
She uses Denji as a pawn.

She manipulates him kinda. More like giving him an offer he can’t refuse to get him to help her rescue Meowy.
Now let’s think because there were many ways that she could have gone about getting Meowy back. For one she could’ve told him the truth. Instead she decides to hit Denji in the head to use him as a sacrifice. Knowing damn well he was going to get eaten, but she went about it anyway.
This is the perfect example of people doing anything and everything to get back something or someone they love.
Welp, that good plan of hers doesn’t go as planned. The Bat Devil eats Meowy and you can immediately see the pain roll right over her. Looking absolutely done and defeated. She didn’t even fight back when the devil decided to eat her. Instead she remembers that Meowy was the first thing she didn’t feel the need to feast when looking at. Power grew to love not knowing that was possible for her.
She doesn’t get punished for the wrong she did. It is really just a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again.

Soon after Power moves in with Aki and Denji, her behavior feels chaotic right off the bat. She takes things that don’t belong to her, ignores basic hygiene, and shows little concern for cleanliness. It’s not that she doesn’t understand their norms, it’s that they’ve never mattered to her before.
Power comes from a life defined by survival, not stability. Concepts like personal space, routine, or upkeep weren’t necessities in the world she lived in, so she treats them as optional now.
We see this same mindset during meal times. Power regularly takes other people’s food after finishing her own. This could look like simple greed, but it also reflects scarcity thinking. Whether she’s still hungry or instinctively eating while she can, the behavior suggests someone who never learned when the next meal was guaranteed.
Power is an absolutely fun and entertaining character to watch. The amount of crackheaded energy from her is outstanding. We got a great example of this while they were in the hotel. While every one was either panicking, hunting, or sleeping…
Girly was planning out how to win a noble prize to create a stepping stone leading to take over the prime minister’s throne and after that adding a 100% sales tax.

But when all things start going to more shit. Power immediately announces she is captain of team kill Denji. I feel like she really does things for her entertainment. She’s often stating she is bored. Therefore I’m 100% sure whatever pops in her head she’s definitely picking whichever sounds more interesting first.
For instance wanting to fight Denji to cure their boredom. Literally right after deciding that killing him wasn’t an option.
Quickly after we see that she started caring about Aki and Denji. When the Samurai Sword Devil shot Denji she was the first up and fighting. Power also shows that she has an easier time working with her team. She shows that she could follow Aki’s directions to help another devil hunter.
We see her forming a real connection with them. Especially with Denji, close after the attack they’re sent into intense training. This forced them to go from pranking Aki to putting their heads together. They really do this in a way that is accurate for the both of them. Their fighting is also always fun in games.

Who Power is never changes and I love it.
She continues being her crackheaded self that will run into fights she knows she can win. Along with saying the most outlandish things that will have you rolling.
We do get a little peak of Power in the Reze Movie Arc. When waking up, Power ends up face to face with Denji. He tests to see if he is still dreaming and she pops him in the face. She has a different type of horns, so I think that might be the reason he thought he was still dreaming. Therefore she is then taken to Makima so she could get checked out.
Makima explains that if Power drinks too much blood then she needs to be drained because her ego will grow frightening and far more selfish than usual. With this interaction she doesn’t seem like herself. What makes me think that all of this is very unusual is that it’s made clear that Power’s doesn’t want to stay. She seemed to be more on the jumpy, timid side. Almost like she is scared of what might happen to her.
Other than that we don’t see Power again until the end of the Reze Arc.
She’s back to being herself. This time wanting the flowers that Denji had. When he started eating them though she started to fight him because in her words. “Stop eating them. There mine”.

Let us know what your favorite Power moment was?
Mine was definitely when asking Denji if he wanted to fight after naming herself Team Kill Denji.
Power and Denji grow through chaos together, something Otaku Tavern’s Denji spotlight explores from his side.
