Spoiler: Season 1 – Reze Movie Arc

When we meet Power, why did she come in stronger than ever? 

Was it her trying to prove something or did she just think she was better and stronger than everyone. I honestly think that is just how she is. Someone that has this type of spunk that gets translated into be greedy, childish, and manipulative, and who thinks solely for herself. 

Power used to be a feared Devil before becoming a Friend. Therefore that could have been the reason her and Denji had trouble finding Devils in the first place. Though when they were to find Devils. Power had the tendency to run into a fight without thinking. Which could have landed her and her team in trouble. 

She also loved blood, so she had an absolute blast when she could kill a Devil. Stating that. . .

“Mortals, behold! The glory of the kill is mine!”

Then continues to laugh her ass off. Just because of how proud she is of her kills. 

Like girly sounds so manic all the time.

She seems to become guarded when she gets in trouble with Makima. Especially when she questions if Power is worthy of being a Devil Hunter. Which makes her more willing to work with Denji as a team instead of acting on her own accord.  

Though it’s not long til we start seeing the more caring side of Power. Turns out the girl has a soft spot for cats. Specifically her cat Meowy that was being held captive by the Bat Devil. 

Denji tried to understand where she was coming from. Saying he had a pet too once, but now he just lives in his heart. She didn’t view it that way because to her what Denji said suggests that Pochita is dead. Along with saying that him living in his heart is just a pathetic excuse at self-comfort. 

Not understanding at all what he meant. 

Which honestly makes me think that if she thinks that way, she may not get upset at all if someone she cares about dies. 

Turns out she would do anything for that cat though. 

She uses Denji as a pawn. 

Manipulating him in a way. More like she offered him something the boy couldn’t refuse.

Let’s think about this though. There were many different ways Power could have gone about getting Meowy back. Though the obvious one would be where she told Denji the truth. Instead of hitting him over the head and using the kid as a sacrifice. Knowing sure as well he was going to get eaten.

She did that anyway. 

Once they arrived at the most sketched out house in literally the middle of nowhere. Power whacked Denji in the head and dragged him the rest of the way.

This is the perfect example of doing anything and everything to get back something or someone you love. 

Also showing that Power isn’t as stupid as people think she might be. She is very smart when she wants to be. 

When the plan didn’t go as expected, the Bat Devil eats Meowy. Turns out she would be absolutely devastated if Meowy died. In that moment you can see every ounce of pain rolling over Power. Looking every bit done and defeated. She didn’t have any fight left in her when the Devil decided to eat her as well. 

Instead she remembers when she first came across Meowy. Wanting to fatten the being up before feasting. Until one day she grew to love when she didn’t even know that was a possibility. It was strange not hearing a voice that was screaming in terror, but she didn’t feel the need to feast on Meowy. 

At this moment, she sympathized with him. Finally understanding what he meant. Knowing that it is a dreadful feeling knowing someone you love is gone. 

Then we learn why she loves blood so much. She is the Blood Fiend, but what would make her that? The taste, smell, and the sense of mortality. Until she found that it’s nice and warm which is a whole different sense. 

Power and Meowy end up being saved by Denji. Which would mean eventually he would cash in the reward she promised him.  

She doesn’t get punished for the wrongs she had committed. It’s really just a slap on the wrist. Denji was trying to protect her anyways. She was told not to do it again or something would be done next time. 

In her head though, she didn’t do anything wrong.

Soon after Power moves in with Aki and Denji. Now her behavior feels chaotic right off the bat. She takes things that don’t belong to her, ignores basic hygiene, and shows little concern for cleanliness. It’s not that she doesn’t understand their norms, it’s just that they’ve never mattered to her before. 

Power comes from a life defined by survival, not stability. Concepts like personal space, routine, or upkeep weren’t necessities in the world she lived in. Therefore she treats them as optional now. 

We see this same mindset when it comes to meal times. Power regularly takes other people’s food after finishing her own, except for vegetables because she doesn’t like them. This could look like simple greed, but it also reflects scarcity thinking. Whether she’s still hungry or instinctively eating while she can. The behavior suggests someone who never knew when the next meal was guaranteed. 

Then we get Power finally giving Denji what she promised if he were to help save Meowy. Giving him something that was part of his perverted dream. To fondle some Titties. Even though at first she had no plans on actually letting him because you know she tried to sacrifice him. 

If she was going to let him do this one thing she had of course played into it. Then left him like absolutely nothing had happened. Which was such a thing she would do.

On the other hand, Power is an absolutely fun and entertaining character to watch. The amount of crackheaded energy we receive from her is outstanding.

Denji and Power even start teaming up to prank Aki. They seem to take it a little too far and she knows it. 

We also get a great example while they are in the hotel. Everyone was panicking, hunting, or sleeping.

Not Power though. . .

She is having the time of her life. Even laughing at everyone else. Letting nothing at all bother her in this crazy situation. 

Girly was planning out how to win a noble prize, creating a stepping stone leading to the takeover of the prime minister, and adding a 100% sales tax. 

When everything starts going to even more shit. Power immediately announces she is the captain of Team Kill Denji.

Power is definitely a character that does things solely for her entertainment. She’s often saying she is bored. Therefore I’m 100% sure whatever pops in her head, she is picking the one that sounds more interesting first. Not really caring if it has a bad outcome. 

For instance, wanting to fight Denji to cure their boredom. Literally right after deciding that killing him wasn’t an option. 

Like, girl didn’t you just want him dead and you want him to trust you? He is just supposed to believe you won’t try and kill him? She is honestly so funny in times she needs to be serious. 

She even ended up eating all the food they found. With absolutely no care for how long they might be trapped. 

But. . .

Power is the one that kept Aki from bleeding out because freaking Kobeni stabbed him. She admitted that she only had the ability to control her own blood. Though she wasn’t against trying to keep him from dying. 

Quickly after we see that Power is starting to care about Aki and Denji. When the Samurai Sword Devil shot Denji, she was the first one up and fighting. Also showing that she has an easier time working with her team. Especially being able to follow Aki’s directions to help another Devil Hunter. 

She also was the first one to flee without putting up more of a fight. Knowing damn well that she wasn’t going to be able to change the outcome if she even stayed. 

We see her forming real connections with them. That is the last thing she would admit though. 

Maybe a little more with Denji, close after the attack when they were put into intense training. Which gets absolutely insane. By the time the first night of training was over Power needed to basically smash Denji’s head in. Why? Because he was going absolutely crazy and that was the only way to get him to think correctly.

This forced them from pranking Aki to putting their heads together and going to work. They really do this in a way that’s accurate for the both of them. Their fighting is also always fun in games. 

Who Power is never changes and I absolutely love it. She is always unapologetically herself, which draws her to me. 

She continues being a crackheaded self that will run into fights at least in the ones she knew she could win. Along with saying the most outlandish things that will have you rolling. 

We do get a little peak of Power in the Reze Arc. 

When she wakes up, she ends up face to face with Denji. He tests to see if he is still dreaming and she punches him in the face. She did have different types of horns, so I can see that being the reason he thought he was still dreaming. 

She is then taken to Makima to be checked out. 

There Makima explains that if Power drinks too much blood then she needs to be drained. Her ego will grow frighteningly large and far more selfish than usual.

With this interaction though, Power doesn’t seem like herself. It is made very clear that she doesn’t want to be left with Makima alone. Seeming to be more jumpy and timid. Almost like she is scared of what might happen to her.

Other than that we don’t see Power again until the end of the movie.

She is back to being herself. This time wanting flowers Denji had bought for Reze. Though Power had claimed them to be hers. Then he started eating them and she started fighting him because in her words…

“Stop eating them. They’re mine.”
